Definitions and Terms

This section is devoted to the defining of certain rebinding/premium bible terms specific to this community and craft, specifically examples of work I’ve done. Enjoy!

Edge-lined Rebind

Edge-lining the rebind, is when the liner leather holds the bible in the cover by PVA glue.

On this cover, you can see the liner cut into two tabs, to then be glued to the side of the Bible block when completing the rebind!

Yapp: Overhang of the cover around the block (Bible).

Semi Yapp: Half covering the pages

Full Yapp: Full coverage of the pages.

Perimeter Tooling

A thin line, impressed into the cover by a leather working tool, outlining where the block is in relation to the yapp. This is a classic touch, made popular by many premium brands.

Liner Gilt Line

A classic look for a classic rebind!

A thin silver or gold line, creating a layered look from liner, to the cover’s edge. I have different colored foil for your choice, if you prefer!

Cover Embossing

This is your chance to put a special design on your bible cover! If your design is simple, this is a relatively easy process.

Art Gilt

Also known as page-dying, this allows you to add color to your pages.
Typically, you’ll hear language such as “red-under-gold” or “blue-under-silver.” The first color means the page dye, while the gold or silver refers to existing gilding on the pages.
Page dye can be added to bibles with no gold or silver gilding as well.
This process works only for new bibles with little page wear.
